Can yurts be used year-round?Absolutely, yurts can be used all year round in Ireland! This is one of the most frequently asked questions we receive. Our yurts are designed with a four-season canvas, specifically tailored to withstand the varied Irish climate. The winter months present the toughest conditions for any yurt canvas. However, our canvas is built to endure these harsh elements. To ensure maximum comfort and longevity, it is crucial to maintain a heat source, such as a stove, during the colder months. This helps to keep the interior dry and warm, preventing moisture build-up that can damage the canvas. With proper care and regular maintenance, our yurts are not only durable but also long-lasting. Ensuring the canvas is clean, dry, and securely fastened will significantly extend its lifespan, allowing you to enjoy year-round yurt living in Ireland. For more detailed information or to discuss your specific needs, feel free to contact us directly!

What maintenance is required? Our yurts are crafted with care, and each wall and roof component is treated with two coats of linseed oil for added protection and durability. This natural finish enhances the wood's resilience against the elements while maintaining its beautiful, rustic appearance. To ensure your yurt stays in excellent condition for years to come, minimal maintenance is required. Regular inspections of both the canvas and wooden components are recommended to identify any wear or damage early on. For the canvas, simply brush off dirt and debris as needed to keep it looking fresh. For deeper cleaning, use a mild soap and water solution—avoid harsh chemicals, as they can damage the fabric and reduce its lifespan. You can also use a soft brush or sponge to clean stubborn spots or stains. None of the wooden components of your yurt are directly exposed to the elements, which contributes to their long lifespan. While the timber is treated with double-coated linseed oil for added protection, occasional reapplication of the oil can help maintain its natural finish. Depending on your environment, re-oiling every 2 years can help preserve the wood's vibrant appearance and further protect it from moisture or UV exposure, ensuring your yurt remains in excellent condition for years to come It's also important to check for any signs of mildew or mold on the canvas, especially in humid conditions. If detected, use a specialized cleaner or a mixture of water and white vinegar to treat the affected area, ensuring the canvas is thoroughly dried afterward. When well looked after, a yurt has an impressive long lifespan and can maintain its value over time. If the day ever comes that you wish to sell your yurt, its excellent condition—thanks to proper maintenance—will ensure it retains a high resale value, making it a wise investment for the future. By following these simple upkeep steps, you'll preserve the integrity, beauty, and longevity of your yurt, ensuring it remains a comfortable and stylish space for years to come

Do yurts need planning permission? The requirement for planning permission for a yurt depends on several key factors, including the intended use, location, and the duration for which the structure will remain in place. In general, smaller structures under 25m² are often exempt from planning permission, particularly when they are temporary or designed to be movable. However, regulations can vary significantly depending on local planning authorities, and specific conditions or restrictions may apply based on the region or zoning laws in your area. For instance, if your yurt is intended for residential, commercial, or educational use, different rules may apply compared to if it is simply a temporary structure for recreational purposes. Additionally, the permanence of the structure (e.g., if it is placed on a fixed foundation or intended for long-term use) can also influence whether planning permission is required. Because local authorities have different rules and regulations, it is crucial to consult with your local planning department before proceeding with the installation of your yurt. At Nomad Yurts, we strongly recommend reaching out to your local authority to get clear and detailed guidance regarding the need for planning permission based on your specific circumstances and intended use.
